Mission Matters: Loving Care Cat Rescue gives injured and neglected cats a second chance at life

Loving Care Cat Rescue, a volunteer-run nonprofit, transforms the lives of injured and neglected cats.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — When cats are injured, neglected, or left with nowhere to go, one local nonprofit is stepping up to help.

On this week’s Mission Matters, we introduce you to Loving Care Cat Rescue, an organization dedicated to giving vulnerable cats and kittens a second chance at life – no matter how difficult their circumstances may be.

From abuse cases to severe medical needs, Loving Care Cat Rescue is known for taking on the cats others can’t.

The rescue’s mission is right there in its name, “to provide loving care to every cat and kitten that comes into this rescue, regardless of its medical conditions or circumstances,” said Olivia Evans, executive operations manager for Loving Care Cat Rescue.

While the cats may be vocal with their meows, they cannot speak for themselves – so the rescue does it for them.

“We don’t hesitate to step up, to at least give them a chance,” Evans said.

Now in its 10th year, Loving Care Cat Rescue is a 100% volunteer-run organization, supported by more than 100 passionate animal lovers.

“I have a very difficult time turning my head when I see an animal in need,” Evans said.

The nonprofit, which was founded by Dr. Lisa Snyder, is fully foster based, meaning there is no physical shelter.

“We do not have a brick-and-mortar shelter or building,” Evans explained. “All of our kitties are in foster homes like this one.”

One of those homes belongs to Cindi Scheib, who spends eight hours a day helping humans as a critical care and emergency trauma nurse – and the rest of her time helping cats.

“It’s the most rewarding thing I’ve done in my life,” she said.

In 2024, Scheib launched Project Cat Wound Care, which is a specialized arm of the rescue and provides advanced wound treatment for cats suffering from severe injuries.

Using her medical background – while working alongside veterinarians and trained volunteers – Scheib helps treat cats with abscesses, trauma, amputation complications, and more.

“It’s been really successful,” she said. “So many of these animals were going to be euthanized. We’ve helped 32 cats from 2024 and 2025.”

Donations of new, partially used, or even expired wound-care supplies are repurposed for animal treatment, saving the rescue thousands of dollars.

“I can’t even add up how much money we save by doing in-house wound treatment,” Scheib said.

Those savings allow Loving Care Cat Rescue to focus much of its budget on medical care for cats who have been injured, neglected, or surrendered.

“We are often known to take on those really difficult, challenging cases,” Evans said.

In 2025 alone, the nonprofit’s expenses totaled $245,000, much of it going toward medical care.

“Every single donation that comes our way truly goes toward the care and medical needs of our kitties,” Evans said.

Last year, Loving Care Cat Rescue took in more than 800 cats and kittens and celebrated 769 adoptions – an accomplishment made possible by more than 50 foster homes and countless volunteers.

At the core of every decision is one guiding belief.

“We do not put a price tag on a life,” Evans said.

Because at Loving Care Cat Rescue, no cat is left behind.

How You Can Help

Loving Care Cat Rescue is always looking for volunteers – whether that means fostering cats, helping at events, assisting with wound care, or lending a hand behind the scenes. As a nonprofit organization, they also rely heavily on community donations.

The rescue is hosting their biggest in-person fundraiser of the year, “ROCK OUT FOR RESCUE”, at the Vineyard and Brewery of Hershey on May 9. There will be live music, dancing, adult beverages, raffle baskets, and more. Be on the lookout for tickets via the rescue’s website or Facebook page.
