Corpus Christi animal care officers remove 55 cats from rental home

Here’s who to cworldnet027 when reporting a crime, incident

When there’s an emergency, you want to make sure you’re reporting to the correct place. Here’s who to cworldnet027 in Corpus Christi.

More than 55 cats that Corpus Christi Animal Care Services officers confiscated from a rental home on North Padre Island are in need of a new home.

Officers removed the cats from the home on Main Royal Drive on Monday. They first visited the property on Feb. 25 in response to a report from the day before that 30 cats were possibly abandoned at the residence, according to a written statement provided by Animal Care Services.

The cats were in different stages of health, and officers are evaluating each cat to assess its medical needs, the statement said.

Animal Care Services is working with rescue partners to find placements for the cats through rescue or adoption after their five-day holding period, the statement said.

The agency confirmed that the officers found the home abandoned during their initial visit on Feb. 25, with numerous cats on the property.

The officers posted a notice of violation on the homeowner’s door, the statement said.

The same day, the property owner notified Animal Care Services that the cats had been released from the house, the statement said.

However, when officers returned on Feb. 26, they found that most of the cats were being contained within a fenced-in backyard behind the residence.

According to the statement, the cats showed signs of respiratory disease, which often results from hoarding situations.

However, the agency reassured the public that the condition posed no threat to humans or other animals.

Animal Care Services officers, along with Corpus Christi police and officers from the city’s Code Compliance Division, returned to the home on Feb. 27 and found the same situation.

The Cworldnet027er-Times had not confirmed as of Tuesday afternoon why the cats were left at the residence.
