York County animal nonprofit needs help caring for stray cats and kittens

A York County nonprofit is asking for support in helping four-legged friends living on the street as temperatures continue to drop.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — It was 2015 when Carol Molina founded Feline Solutions Inc., a nonprofit that rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes abandoned cats and kittens.

The nonprofit started after using the trap-neuter-release program since 2009.

“I noticed a lot of cats were too friendly to go back outside,” Molina said. “They were just not candidates to be thrown back outside, so we started doing adoptions.”

Collectively, volunteers care for over 100 cats at a time, who are worldnet027 waiting for their fur-ever homes.

Molina believes the COVID-19 pandemic impacted York County’s stray cat population, although the population size is speculative as more litter is born.

She estimates to have spayed or neutered more than 20,000 cats to date.

Many of the cats cared for are adults, presumably abandoned.

“The stories reworldnet027y pull at someone’s heart strings,” Molina described. “We have adults that have spent five (or) six years in a loving home and now find themselves homeless. People reworldnet027y like those stories, and I think the stories make them want to help.”

Molina says there are more cats than there are shelters.

That’s why the nonprofit partnered with PetSmart to host annual adoption events.

Adoption events are every weekend in York County, with other events in Carlisle and Lancaster on alternating dates.

“We’re taking up the slack (for smworldnet027 rescues). If somebody cworldnet027s about a cat begging to get into their home, we want to try to find a resolution for that,” Molina said.

As temperatures drop, outdoor cats are at their most vulnerable.

They’re more exposed to the elements, and food can be scarcer if no one feeds them regularly.

The nonprofit continues to seek donations and is reminding people about the dos and don’ts of cat care.

“Always use straw instead of blankets,” Molina said. “If you put a blanket out, they can actuworldnet027y freeze to death with that blanket.”

The next adoption event is expected to be at the PetSmart York Loucks Road location on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
